Anthony Day

Anthony Day
Anthony Day, Treasurer of the White Rose Conference, started out as an accountant, which is probably just as well. These days he’s an environmental management consultant, working with the Institute of Actuaries, the international accountancy bodies and DEFRA on various aspects of sustainability standards, as well as running his own consultancy business. He delivers management workshops, has made conference speeches throughout UK and Europe and now facilitates webinars – a new form of public speaking which is very, very green.
Anthony knew nothing about Toastmasters – and neither did his co-founders – when they set up the Leeds club in 2002. Since then he’s been involved in setting up York Eborators, is a charter member of Strictly Speaking Harrogate and is a sponsor of A1 Speakers Newcastle. This year he’s also Area 15 Governor, with another three pre-charter clubs in action. (Thank goodness for assistant area governors – and isn’t it about time they got some sort of recognition?) He hopes to get his DTM in 2010, but he may be too busy with Toastmasters to achieve it.
“What do I like about Toastmasters? It’s the honest and detailed feedback that you get after every speech. You get nothing like it from a commercial audience. With Toastmasters, however experienced you are the feedback helps you learn and helps you improve. Now you’ll have to excuse me – I’ve got a meeting.”
