Keeping Your Conference Green
Toastmasters exists to improve communication and leadership skills. Nothing else. No touting for business. No networking. No politics, religion or charity work.
With that in mind, this piece is not intended to influence your views on the environment one way or the other. Nevertheless, we know that being green and controlling the carbon footprint is important to some Toastmasters, just as many are active sales people, politicians, churchgoers and charity workers in their other lives. That is why we have included some carbon calculators below – so you can offset your conference travel if you choose.
Our York location will help many people travel by low-carbon public transport, and many members will find that a day trip by rail is perfectly possible, given that the Royal York is located right next door to the station.
Although parking can be expensive in York, there are seven park-and-ride centres on the edge of the city. There is also an extensive network of cycle-lanes. To encourage cycling, any delegates from Ireland making the complete land journey by bicycle will receive a special award. A puncture repair outfit.
